Authentic English Scones

1 3/4 c flour
3 T sugar
2 1/2 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1/3 c cold butter
 1 egg, beaten
6 T milk, divided
1/2 c currents or raisins

Preheat oven to 350.  Mix dry ingredients.  Cut in butter.  Add egg, 4 T milk ad currents.  Mix until dough leaves the sides of the bowl, adding up to 2 T more milk as needed.  Turn dough out onto floured surface and pat into a round shape about 1/2 inch thick.  Transfer to greased pan or stone.  Cut with pizza wheel into 8-12 wedges.  Bake 12-15 minutes or until light brown.  Serve warm with butter or jam.
